Application/Games Privacy on Facebook

I’ve recently posted an article here regrading tweaking your Facebook privacy settings. Now, very recently I was rolled into Facebook’s new Home Page design, but through a little exploration I found something that might concern you and your privacy. I’ve seen that there’s the new tab for Applications and Games, so I went to look on it and saw this

Now, of course I understand their point in making this. But my concern was all about the privacy. I want to hide myself, maybe from someone, to see that I am currently playing a game or that I recently played this game or used this application. So I sent this snapshot along and sent an email days ago to Facebook and got a response just now. Here’s an exact copy of the email I sent and what I received.

Hi! Regarding your new facbook layout, it looks good and I like it. But I found something that might be a privacy concern and there’s no setting for it, yet, as far as I have looked for it. It is the display of I am or if my friends are currently using an application and if they used it today or so… Snapshot here : http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=3251799&id=646764264

I hope you understand my concern. Thanks. Just a helpful feedback.

Hi Ivan Josiah,

The Application Dashboard and Games Dashboard have been added to make it easier for you to interact with your favorite applications and games, as well as discover new ones. The dashboards allow you to view the latest applications or games with which you and your friends have interacted.

Additionally, the Games Dashboard is a dedicated space for games on Facebook, so you can receive personalized updates from your applications to remind you if it’s your turn in a game or to let you know that a friend has taken an action in that application. To access the dashboard for an application or game, simply click on that application in your left navigation column.

We appreciate your feedback and will certainly keep it in mind as we continue to improve the site. To learn more about the changes and updates related to the new Facebook home page design, please visit the following link:

Thanks for contacting Facebook,

I guess they do know it but still can’t apply the new privacy settings for it because now everyone is with the new Facebook home page just yet. Plus, there are still a few bugs and tweaks still needed to be done on the new Home Page. In my opinion, the new home page is a pretty nice layout for the homepage and probably a really functional one. Well, aside for a few bugs I still encounter especially during the process of uploading photos and creating a new album. It’s just that I simply can’t accomplish that, so I was forced to use a third-party application just to upload a picture.

Anyhow, let’s just wait till the new privacy settings get applied. I feel that they are aware of this privacy issue and Im pretty sure they’ll make steps in protecting our privacy. Especially I can quote “We appreciate your feedback and will certainly keep it in mind as we continue to improve the site. To learn more about the changes and updates related to the new Facebook home page design…” from them. hahaha

That’s all for now! Ciao!
